Child abuse: The monster under the bed

A few years before in a leadership workshop, we were given a task of talking to young children, of allowing them a vent to their precious feelings. Back then I was still pursuing my post graduate degree in Social Work. I had read about individual case studies and had even put it into practice with drug addicts in a rehabilitation centre, but this was different. These were kids, some 8 to 12 years of age and I was supposed to make them aware about child abuse. How would I ever define abuse to them, without sounding like a pervert or well, silly, especially in a society where such things are a taboo and can’t be talked about. I skirted around the topic by just asking them about the games they play, their hobbies, favourite cartoons and all that stuff that keeps children interested, even if it meant talking about glorified western superheroes who wear their underwear over their pants. Gradually, I felt they were comfortable enough with me, so I just started talking about touches, good and bad ones. The reality about to unfold in front of me would make me uncomfortable to the core.

’What if a molvi sahab does that?’ This question by an 8 year old girl had me open my mouth to say something, that didn't proceed beyond my throat. I thought it best to take her aside and talk to her about it. After what seemed like eternity to me, she opened up and told me how a molvi sahab, employed by her parents to teach her the Holy Qur'an, would touch her at inappropriate places, making her uncomfortable. She went on to say that he would try to kiss her often, an action she hated. I could feel myself tremble, thinking of the terrible position the girl was in, vulnerable and exposed to abuse of the worst kind. I wanted to know from her as to why she never told her parents about it; the answer just pushed me further into the dirty world we are a part of. She was afraid her parents wouldn't believe her, as the molvi was respected and she was just ‘another naughty kid’. I convinced her to immediately take her parents into confidence about the matter and also had a local person assigned the job of following it up discreetly.

The incident made me uncomfortable, having been through such an experience in my life as well. It reminded me of how impure I had felt, how guilty, even at 8 years of age, when a random beggar had touched me inappropriately in the garb of blessing me. The idea of how vulnerable children are still makes me cringe; the thought of dirty hands with nauseating intentions touching their bodies, caging them in guilt that is not theirs to bear. That is the thing about child sexual abuse; it is difficult to observe and the victim is an innocent little child, who is most of the times unaware of what’s happening to him/her. Most of the times the perpetrator is someone close, a person who the child knows well, thereby increasing the chances of the crime going unreported. The problem takes a turn for the worse in case of the sub continent, where in countries like India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kashmir, relations are close and love towards children is often shown physically. In such cases how do you differentiate between the good and the bad, the friend and the enemy? Food for thought!

Why is child sexual abuse common?

Child sexual abuse is so common because, the victim of the abuse, the children are vulnerable, exposed and unable to stand up against the abuse. The perpetrator is well aware of the fact that a child in fact will not either know that s/he is being abused or can be threatened to remain silent. It is a case of an easy prey for a cunning predator. Why would a person with such perverse and evil designs choose an adult who can, for probability sake, fight back easily? Another factor for child abuse being common is the under reporting of the cases of abuse. In many cases the children never tell their parents about the problems they are facing, given the fact that there are chances they won’t be believed, which again stems from the fact that mostly the abuser is a close relative or friend. Chances are that the fear of being labelled as an ‘unruly, undisciplined liar’ proves to be a deterrent in involving parents or elders in the matter. A second cause is also the reluctance of parents to take action even if the crime is established, especially in close knit societies. Low level of awareness or the denial mode of adults in general towards child sexual abuse is nauseatingly prevalent. The idea that no wrong can happen to children or the excessive trust on people leads to children being abused in silence.

What can be done to prevent abuse of children?

1.   Accept that child abuse is real: For starters we could change a lot of things if we just accept that child sexual abuse is a reality, a very disturbing one, but very real. The sooner we accept it, the better we can understand the fact that child sexual abuse can happen, anywhere with any child.

2.   Be aware of who comes close to your children: There needs to be proper monitoring of people who come in contact with children.  Categorise people according to your observations and the child’s comfort with the person. A child is likely to refuse going to a person, he feels threatened by.

3.  Keep a close eye on the behaviour of the child: A child’s behaviour is most often the key to what s/he feels. Children facing sexual abuse are likely to show changed behaviour patterns, ranging from remaining secluded, sad, getting aggressive and violent, being detached and showing adverseness towards erstwhile favourite activities. Do not take these changes to be ‘attention gaining tricks’; these are serious indicators of abuse that your child might be going through.

4.   Trust your child: It is important that parents learn to trust their children above others. This will not only in-still confidence in children to share their issues with parents but also is a way out for them to escape abuse by taking their parents into confidence.

5.   Teach your children to recognise good and bad touches: The most important aspect of protecting children from potential abuse is teaching them to distinguish between good and bad touches by people. They should know that nobody is allowed to touch certain areas, such as the chest, the hips, or their genitals. Also children are aware of how a bad touch feels, we just need to help them recognise it. Recognition alone however cannot protect the children, and as such we need prepare our children to fight back. The biggest advantage to a predator is the silence of the victim. Teach children some basic self defence techniques, such as raising an alarm if they sense danger, try and cause physical harm to the perpetrator and escape, and identify a person in school or home who the child trusts and shares his/her concerns with.

Children are perhaps most vulnerable right now because of the fact that they are an easy target for predators, whether it is sexual, physical abuse, or trafficking. They need constant support to avoid such predators that lurk in shadows of relations and acquaintance, and this is not the sole responsibility of their parents, but all those individuals who claim to be in their sane, moral minds. Of course a broader approach towards eliminating or at least highlighting child sexual abuse would be inclusion of these potential threats in curriculum at school level. Awareness is one step towards protection. A change however can start with us, to create awareness in our homes, and in peer groups of children within our families, would start a ripple effect thereby making those disgusting species of humans retreat into their dark holes. After all, we have to shoulder the responsibility to bring change. So look around and report if you see such a pervert. Stop a child from being tortured physically, mentally and sexually. Act now!

A Circus Parade or WW3 Preparations?

Russia and China for the second time in this year went through combined military drills. The “Joint Sea-2015 (II)” exercised in the previous week on Russia’s Pacific coast around 300 miles away Japan homi islands, both China and Russia practiced amphibious landing of 400 marines, in addition to that fighter jets drills also took place targeting on land areas and offshore as well. The Chinese also used aviation assets to move troops to the beach via parachutes and fast ropes via helicopter, they also provided air cover as part of the combined arms exercises. More than 20 ships from China and Russia participated in this joint sea drill.

Apart from that some 5,000 troops from 11 NATO allies will be taking part in “simultaneous multinational airborne operations military exercises” across Germany, Italy Romania and Bulgaria. This is said to be the biggest airborne drills in Europe ever since Cold war ended. The allied warplanes drills which took place on 26 August dropped more than 1,000 paratroopers and equipment to Hohenfels training area in Germany. Similar drill took place the same day at the Novo Selo training area in Bulgaria, which was a former Soviet ally. Until 13 September there will be some 5,000 soldiers from Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Britain and the United States who will participate in these military drills.

The ELN study said that NATO plans approximately 270 exercises this year, while Russia has announced 4,000 drills at all levels. The NATO’s Allied Shield in June mobilized 15,000 people from 19 NATO countries and also from three partner states where as Russia’s March exercise involved 80,000 personnel.

After the annexation of Crimea and many other events from Russia there rose many objects of an excuse of mistrust for West towards Russia. Those excuses gave a rise to these massive military drills. The US said on Tuesday that these NATO drills in Europe codenamed “Swift Response 15”  is designed to help allied "high-readiness forces" act as one and "demonstrate the alliance's capacity to rapidly deploy and operate in support of maintaining a strong and secure Europe."

Where on other hand officials from Russia and China said that their military exercises are to boost collective regional security and serve as a backstop against the expansion of US military and political influence in the region.

A confusing state develops from these mass military drills that which country(s) is actually under a threat? A simple answer to this lies in the events from history and a deep examining of the leaders who thought they could control all those events in past, but the events have their own dynamics and momentum and thus they could not be controlled.

All these exercises are a sure indication of increased uncertainty and risks of dangerous military encounters and chances for European conflict OR are we simply watching a Circus Parade, you decide.

Google's new Android Wear

Google always looks for ways to get quick information from smartwatches and to do that these tech giants have developed new options for watch faces on Android wear devices, which are powered by their own softwares for wearable tech.

This new option will let the user see the weather or step counter right or left whenever they glance at their watches! Instead of changing the screens of the gadgets, they will announce an update for them so that the users can easily get their smartwatches updated.

"With just a tap, your watch face can change its design, reveal more information, or even launch a specific app," Flavio Lerda, an Android Wear software engineer, wrote in a statement.

These recent moves by Google shows how much they actually respond to user queries and want the best for their costumers.
Last year when Google first launched its smartwatch, it didn't want to overwhelm its customers as it was a new thing and people were not used to wear a mini computer like watch on their wrists. Apple, with its Apple Watch, allows people to do some things from its default screen, like launching an alarm or the watch's fitness features. But, true to Apple style, the watch faces have largely remained simple as well. Unlike Apple, Google is asking app developers to create watch faces to fit users' interests. One watch face, made by Under Armour, shows a step counter or a tracker of how many calories you've burned. Another watch face shows you how many unread emails you have, or what meetings you have coming up.

A new gold reserve in Yazd, Iran.

A senior official says: Iran has identified more than 1,200 promising gold prospects, including a positive anomaly discovered recently in the Darreh Bidan of Yazd whose reserves have not been determined yet.
The Deputy head of the Geology and Mineral Discoveries Organization Behrouz Borna said, “After tracing possible gold bearing zones in 21 provinces across the country, gold mines have been marked in 10 provinces.”
Iran's estimated gold reserves are 340 metric tons in about 24 mines across the country and with these resources, Iran is highlighted to have guests who would love to take them. Zarshuran, as the Middle East’s biggest gold deposit, will yield 6 metric tons of gold a year after the current expansion of the processing facility is complete by 2017. Senior officials also say that Iran's gold deposit per annum is about 7 metric tons.
Iran’s western Kurdestan province, senior officials are planning to open a gold mine which will be able to produce about 2 metric tons a year and will improve Iran's gold deposit.
Production from the Sari Gunay deposits near Qorveh with an ore concentration of 1.6 grams per metric ton will begin in the next three months says Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.
Borna said Iran has the capacity to boost its gold production to 10 metric tons per year with further explorations.
He said gold is a top priority mineral for exploration. “Gold is primarily a strategic substance. Moreover, given the existence of at least 14 gold zones in the country, new discoveries of mines are possible.” Borna also said, “The Geology and Mineral Discoveries Organization has discovered several gold zones and found reserves in the provinces which were never considered to have such deposits,” “Iran is among the world’s five biggest gold consumers which provides added motivation to discover more gold,” he added in the discussion.
In the end, we all can see that Iran is slowly showing its true powers and with all these discoveries and determination of the Iranian government, they can surely have a bright and stable future.

Iran's New Home-made Fighter Jet

Iran, on 9th of February 2015 unveiled a new home made super sonic fighter jet named 'Saeqeh 2' or 'Thunderbolt 2' which can also be used for training purposes, reported by FNA. 'The double-cockpit supersonic fighter jet, which has been designed and built by the defense ministry's aerospace industries organization in cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran's Air Force, can be used for combat missions, close-range cover and backup in tactical missions, and also advanced pilot training programs,' Iranian Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said at the unveiling ceremony.
He further said that this aircraft had been made with a much more unique and better design to improve its combat ability. The plane has also been equipped with advanced electro-avionics and weapons systems to train pilots for flying with the existing or new heavy fighters. After this, the Iranian Air Force commander added that they will build another plane which will be able to trace out US and ISRAELI stealth planes and combat with them head on!
The commander added. 'We will build a plane that will be a part of the Saeqeh family but improved and equipped with fourth generation avionics. He reiterated that Iran was reaching a level of expertise that it would soon be able to manufacture a totally different aircraft in terms of electronic, radar and avionic systems as well as weaponry equipment.

In September 2010, Iran displayed the first squadron of its Saeqeh fighters in an air show staged during the military parades at the beginning of the Week of Sacred Defense, marking Iranians' sacrifices during the 8 years of Iraqi imposed war on Iran in 1980s.

In September 2011, the Iranian Air Force's first squadron of home-made Saeqeh fighter jets started operations during the large offensive air drills codenamed "Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Vellayat III" in Northwestern Iran.

Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Air Force Brigadier General Alireza Barkhor announced in February that the new model of Iran's home-made Saeqeh jet fighter would be unveiled in the future.

Also in the same month, Iranian Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shah Safi announced that his forces had focused all their power and energy on building fighter jets as they believed that future wars were fought and won in the sky.

The commander also said that it is the hard work and sacrifices that Iranian men had to give that resulted in this fine squadron of Saeqeh jets!

Yet, the Air Force commander reiterated the defensive doctrine of the Islamic Republic, saying Tehran had the narrowest military budget among the regional countries.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems.

The country has repeatedly made it clear that its military might is merely based on the state's defense doctrine of deterrence and that it poses no threat to other countries.

Nuclear Energy: The Right of Iran.

In the minds of human beings there runs this feeling to conquer and rule over the most possible things which they could, when it doesn't seem to happen the easy way, they use money and power. They want things to go according to them and don't want any interpretations to it. A big example of those minds is seen in the shape of America and with its allies, known as world powers. To achieve their devilish goals they would go through anything, either if its killing an innocent, oppression, destabilizing a country by starting battles and by lots of unjust acts. But the most interesting thing is that after all that oppression they have forecast, the world still sees them as righteous heads of state. It's not that those people like oppression its rather because that oppression is made to appear as justified and right thing but sadly we follow all those justification which appears on media with our closed minds and eyes.

Half a century ago from today Iran was an idle nation, USA, UK and some other European countries had a lot of interest in Iran's natural resources the same way they had interests in natural resources in Afghanistan, made Al-Qaeda and Taliban introduced them as terrorist organizations, killed the innocents of their own country in 911, blamed it on Al-Qaeda and Yaaay!, they actually had a justifiable reason to invade Afghanistan. The very same case with Iraq and other similar states. The Shah of the Iran was sold out to America, and he himself had bought his entire nation and made them go into a long sleep. During that time Iran started to become famous as 2nd Europe because of the entirely westernized culture. The Iranians just had to sit in their homes, relax and enjoy their life not supposed to work at all, the American pulpit was there to fund them. But a man called Imam Khomeni rose up, opposed the ideology and system of Shah and the hacks of national property by western powers, he made the people to stand on their feet, think and renovate their minds. And with the support of 30 million revolutionary Iranians he finally kicked out Shah and his Western powers undergoing one of the remarkable revolution and established an independent state which caused no threat to any state. By then money and power couldn't buy Iran and ever since those western powers are struggling not to accept that defeat. Today Iran is the biggest enemy of America, why? Simply because Iran says no to the policies of America thus as a revenge they imposed sanctions on them so that they may not flourish.
Today when the supreme leader of Iran tells that we have no interest over building nuclear weapons and proves that from the Holy Book Qur'aan that the weapons of mass destruction are not allowed in the religion, these unjust leaders from West don't want that to be accepted by the world, they want to maintain a bad image of Iran by their baseless and false interpretations. But the Muslims trust him they trust Ayatollah Khomeni exactly they same way Christians trust Pope Francis.

After the agreement of P5+1 on Iran's nuclear deal which also seems as a strategy for the world powers for future relations with Iran, the red carpet are now been rolled out in Tehran as the high officials from different parts of the world are arriving to explore the beautiful Iran and doors of trade are seen to be opening with various profitable business opportunities. Iranians of coarse are very happy with the deal and have opened their arms for warm welcome to foreigners.

But still after the deal has been agreed, the US congress stays in its arrogant state with Iran. Earlier the republicans from congress criticized John Kerry for giving too much ground to Iran on which he cleared that its not to reform the Iranian regime. Although its still possible for the US congress to torpedo the deals during the 2 month time congress has to review the deal, Mr. Obama cannot lift the sanctions imposed by congress on Iran, its also possible that congress can reject the deal although Mr. Obama has the right to veto that which is unlikely to happen because it would need two-third majority to overturn the veto.
America now remains in a state of anxiety related to Iran as things are not going accordingly to their dearly plans and wishes and a slightest mistake can result devastating for America.

In the previous week Ayatollah Khomeni cleared if America starts of any battle it would be its suicide mission, he quoted, " An individual has said that he can destroy Iran's army. If those who will hear this statement want to know the truth and if they are willing to use their experiences correctly they should know that should any war break out of course we do not welcome and begin any war, he who will emerge humiliated [literally : "head-cracked"] out of it, will be transgressing criminal America."

President Obama will leave the office one day but this surely would not mean a peaceful world, presidents of USA will come and go but the congress and their mind set of conquering the world and an imagination of world according to America will stay like that, more innocents will die due to a state drowned in selfishness. And that needs to be stopped. Every human has the right to live freely and independently under his religion and culture provided that he doesn't possess any harm to others.

The Function of a basic Piston Engine

Ever wondered that the car you drive, how does it actually work? What does the engine that you always hear about when a car is mentioned actually does? Well you'll know soon enough!

Basic Parts of a Engine:

A basic piston engine consists of the core of the engine, thee cylinder, with the pistons moving up and down continuously in the cylinders. Cars that have a piston engine consists of 2, 4, 6 and 8 cylinders. In multi cylinder engines, the cylinders are placed in three positions, Inline, V or flat based.
Different configurations have different advantages and disadvantages in terms of smoothness, manufacturing cost and shape characteristics. These advantages and disadvantages make them more suitable for certain vehicles.

The Key parts of an Engine:

-Spark Plugs:
The spark plug supplies the spark that ignites the air/fuel mixture so that combustion can occur. The spark must happen at just the right moment for things to work properly.

-Valves:
The intake and exhaust valves open at the proper time to let in air and fuel and to let out exhaust. Note that both valves are closed during compression and combustion so that the combustion chamber is sealed.

-Pistons:
A piston is a cylindrical piece of metal that moves up and down inside the cylinder.

-Piston rings:
Piston rings provide a sliding seal between the outer edge of the piston and the inner edge of the cylinder. The rings serve two purposes:
  • They prevent the fuel/air mixture and exhaust in the combustion chamber from leaking into the sump during compression and combustion.
  • They keep oil in the sump from leaking into the combustion area, where it would be burned and lost.

Most cars that are burning oil are the ones that have busted piston rings and cylinder seals which is usually seen in old cars.

-Connecting Rod:
The connecting rod connects the piston to the crankshaft. It can rotate at both ends so that its angle can change as the piston moves and the crankshaft rotates.

-Crank Shaft:
The crankshaft turns the piston's up and down motion into circular motion just like a crank on a jack-in-the-box does.

-Sump:
The sump surrounds the crankshaft. It contains some amount of oil, which collects in the bottom of the sump (the oil pan).

Internal Combustion Principal:

The principle behind any reciprocating internal combustion engine: If you put a tiny amount of high-energy fuel (like gasoline) in a small, enclosed space and ignite it, an incredible amount of energy is released in the form of expanding gas. You can use that energy to propel a potato 500 feet. In this case, the energy is translated into potato motion. You can also use it for more interesting purposes. For example, if you can create a cycle that allows you to set off explosions like this hundreds of times per minute, and if you can harness that energy in a useful way, what you have is the core of a car engine!
Almost all cars currently use what is called a four-stroke combustion cycle to convert gasoline into motion. The four-stroke approach is also known as the Otto cycle, in honor of Nikolaus Otto, who invented it in 1867. The four strokes are:
  • Intake stroke
  • Compression stroke
  • Combustion stroke
  • Exhaust stroke
  1. The piston starts at the top, the intake valve opens, and the piston moves down to let the engine take in a cylinder-full of air and gasoline. This is the intake stroke. Only the tiniest drop of gasoline needs to be mixed into the air for this to work.
  2. Then the piston moves back up to compress this fuel/air mixture. Compression makes the explosion more powerful.
  3. When the piston reaches the top of its stroke, the spark plugs  emits a spark to ignite the gasoline. The gasoline charge in the cylinder explodes, driving the piston down.
  4. Once the piston hits the bottom of its stroke, the exhaust valve opens and the exhaust leaves the cylinder to go out the tailpipe.

Now the engine is ready for the next cycle, so it intakes another charge of air and gas.
